Peter Adams-A Master of Team Management

A one-off change from Tuesday to Wednesday, means that we can accommodate our next guest, who we’re delighted to welcome back on Wednesday, April 8th.

Joining us will be Peter Adams, who has made such a huge impact on the sport over the last 40+ years.

When it comes to legendary figures in speedway, few names carry as much weight as Peter Adams. With a career spanning more than four decades, Adams has built a reputation not just for winning-but for shaping the very fabric of team success.

Top SCB referee, Chris Durno, has kindly agreed to officiate proceedings on the night..

 Building Winners Since the 1970s

Peter Adams began his managerial journey in the late 1970s, most notably taking charge of Wolves in 1984. What followed was an extraordinary era of stability and achievement. While many teams cycled through managers, Adams became a constant-crafting competitive squads year after year.

His influence wasn’t limited to one club. Double League title winning stints with Coventry and Cradley Heathfurther cemented his standing as one of the sport’s elite tacticians.

A Trophy Cabinet to Rival Any

Success has followed Adams wherever he’s gone. Over the course of his career, he has guided teams to nine top-flight league titles, including five championship wins with Wolverhampton.

But numbers only tell part of the story. His teams were known not just for winning-but for doing so with consistency, discipline, and a clear strategic edge.

 Developing Champions

Beyond silverware, Adams’ legacy is deeply tied to rider development. He has played a crucial role in mentoring many of the world’s best riders, including Ole Olsen,Bruce PenhallErik Gundersen,Sam Ermolenko and Tai Woffinden, who all went on to become world champions..

His ability to spot talent early and nurture it into greatness has made him a respected figure among riders and fans alike.

From Rock ‘n’ Roll Royalty to Speedway Nobility

Long before he became one of the sport’s most successful team managers, Adams briefly had a very different role-working as a roadie for the drummer Roger Taylor of Queen..

It’s a unique origin story that adds an extra layer of intrigue to an already remarkable career.

 The Adams Approach
